ac3988

Is all Mexican food spicy? Are hard-shell tacos authentic? Popularity sometimes comes at a cost. In the case of Mexican food, its rise to global fame has brought with it some common misconceptions that need to be cleared up. That’s why in this post, we debunk some common myths about Mexican food.

Myth 1: All Mexican Is Food Spicy

“Spicy” is the first word that comes to mind around the world when talking about Mexican food. And while it’s undeniable that Mexicans love their chili peppers, spiciness is often just an option in Mexican food. That’s why salsas exist: they help you dose the spiciness of your food. For example, many Mexicans prefer their tacos without salsa, while others douse their tacos with salsa picante. Others yet, prefer nom-spicy slsa, or “salsa que no pica.”

Myth 2: Mexican Food Is Little More Than Tacos

No doubt, tacos are the icon of Mexican food. It’s easy to see why: they are convenient, delicious, and versatile. However, there’s so much more to Mexican food than just tacos. Every region of Mexico has a distinct cuisine with its own flavors, ingredients, and cooking methods. A quick look at our menu shows that tacos are just the delicious gateway to the rich universe of Mexican food. Some items include:

  1. Grilled chicken

  2. Buritos

  3. Frijoles charros

  4. Frijoles fritos

  5. Carnitas

  6. Tortas

  7. Birria

  8. Caldo de pollo

  9. Flan

Myth 3: Hard-hell Tacos as Authentic Mexican Food

We don’t have anything against hard-shell tacos. We understand the appeal and love that people love the concept of tacos as much as we do. However, if the question is whether hard-shell tacos are authentic, the answer is no. The idea was developed in the 1950s in the United States. Hard-shell tacos can be rightfully be considered a Tex-Mex dish. However, people in Mexico make their tacos with soft corn tortillas.
